“Apocryphal Works: Secret Works” by Cosmas and Damian Brown

Estudio Marte presents 'Obras Apocrífas: Obras Secretas' (Apocryphal Works: Secret Works), an exhibition by Cosmas and Damian Brown that brings together paintings, ceramics, drawings, and cards for the future, created at various times between 2023 and 2025, almost all in Mexico City.
Cosmas says that "these pieces, although all begun at different times and worked on completely separately, don't find their context until they are combined. Their meanings remained hidden from me for a long time, only revealed after prolonged contemplation." This is the first time they have left the studio and come to light. 'Apocryphal Works: Secret Works' is an exhibition of misfit pieces that, despite seemingly being reluctant, have insisted on being worked on. After lingering in the studio, it's time for them to come to light and be displayed.

COSMAS + DAMIAN BROWN
Cosmas And Damian Brown is a multidisciplinary artist based in Mexico City, who studied
art at the University of California, Los Angeles. Brown explores ideas of symbolism, mystery, and
alchemy in the context of contemporary life, contrasting industrial and natural elements, and
combining various representation techniques, both abstract and figurative. Despite addressing
subjects with direct references, Brown is more interested in exploring the secret language of images,
rejecting obvious interpretations and inviting alternative understandings to perception and
knowledge.

Estudio Marte is pleased to announce the opening of an international residency for visual and plastic artists. Located in Mexico City, Estudio Marte extends its offering to a new experience in the municipality of Tlalixtac de Cabrera, Oaxaca.
This call is aimed at artists interested in experiencing creativity in the state of Oaxaca, participating in a space that promotes artistic creation through an experimental and open model.
We offer ideal facilities that invite emerging and established artists from all disciplines of the visual arts to participate in our program of activities within the framework of this international residency, which promotes mobility and cultural exchange.
